Venture Ownership.
The future is not
redistributing
created wealth.
It is redistributing
the creation
of wealth.
Don’t just earn a living.
Build something you own.
UVO’s vision is a future where more people can create wealth through owning businesses. AI tools, experienced operators and access to resources make that opportunity available to more people with the drive to build.
For you, it starts with a founder role in a pre-seeded business. Learn to run it, help it grow and build your own stake in its future.
A real role.
A running start.
You join a pre-seeded business with a thought-through initial vision. Then you help shape where it goes.
Talk to customers, test the product and run early sales experiments. Work alongside experienced company builders, a Bristol ecosystem mentor and UVO’s central team.
of UVO resources per business: technology, AI, go-to-market experiments, tools and specialist support.
Access to resources, not a personal cash payment. What you get.
What you own.
This isn’t an internship. And it isn’t the traditional startup route.
You’re joining a real, pre-seeded business as a Founder Apprentice. UVO provides the foundations so you can focus on building it.
OWNERSHIP
As the business grows, you can earn up to 10% ownership in the company you’re building, alongside the opportunity to pay yourself a salary once the business can support it.
What UVO provides
Capital
Up to £50,000 of resources to get the business moving.
A team around you
Product, engineering, AI, marketing, finance, legal and hiring support.
Experienced founders & mentors
People who have built companies before, there when you need them.
No fundraising to get started
Spend your time finding customers and building the business, not pitching investors.
The drive to make it work.
You talk to customers. Sell. Test. Learn. Hire. Get rejected. Try again. Build the team. Ultimately, learn how to lead the company.
Flip the founder model.
The traditional route
Start with lots of ownership.
Build the infrastructure.
Ownership gets smaller.
- Start with an idea + most of the equity
- Build everything yourself
- Raise money to hire and grow
- Dilute your ownership
- Raise again
- Dilute again
- Years of building
- You can end up owning a small percentage of the company you created
You start with the ownership, but without the capital, team or infrastructure. You can spend years building those around you while your ownership gets smaller.
The UVO route
Start with the infrastructure.
Build the company.
Ownership gets bigger.
- Start with a pre-seeded business
- Capital already available
- Engineering, product + AI already around you
- Marketing, finance + experts available
- Start building and selling
- Grow into leading the company
- Earn up to 10% ownership
We flip the model. Instead of starting with all the equity and gradually giving it away to build the infrastructure, you start with the infrastructure and earn meaningful ownership as you build.
Build the company.
Build your track record.
Build your stake.

Start building
Selected apprentices join a pre-seeded business and begin working with real customers.
The first cohort is designed around up to 10 pre-seeded businesses.
Graduate with a
founder’s track record.
Over 3–4 years, the strongest businesses could build towards serious growth capital and/or an exit. Leave with experience across customers, product, revenue, hiring, fundraising and leadership, plus a meaningful stake in what you built.
UVO backs commercially viable businesses solving problems big enough to matter. Commercial traction comes before capital scales.
Apply to become a founding CEOGood questions.
Clear answers.
Do I need my own business idea?
No. You join a pre-seeded UVO business with an initial vision. Your role is to help build it, learn from customers and shape what comes next.
Who can apply?
This first cohort is for current University of Bristol undergraduate and full-time postgraduate students. We welcome entrepreneurial potential from any subject.
Do I need startup experience?
No. Curiosity, initiative and a bias towards action matter more than a polished pitch. Tell us about something you have taken the initiative to do, however small.
Will I own part of the business?
Founder Apprentices can earn up to 10% ownership in the business they help build. The specific terms will be discussed as part of the selection process.
Will I be paid a salary?
The aim is to build a business that can afford to pay you a salary alongside your equity stake. As it develops, you have a meaningful say in your pay, balancing personal income with cash flow and reinvestment under the agreed company arrangements. A salary from day one is not promised; timing and terms will be discussed during selection.
What support will I get?
UVO brings experienced company builders, mentors, technology and AI tools, go-to-market support, and finance and legal infrastructure. Resources of up to £50,000 per business can support execution. This is access to resources, not a cash payment to each apprentice.
Can I apply with a friend?
We select applicants individually. We may bring complementary apprentices together where a business benefits from a founding team.
How will this fit around my studies?
The programme is aimed at current students. Time commitment, start dates and the practical arrangements will be discussed during selection so you can assess the role alongside your studies.
What could this lead to?
A real founder track record and meaningful ownership. Over 3–4 years, the strongest businesses could reach product-market fit, raise growth capital and/or achieve an exit. These are ambitions, not guaranteed outcomes.
